Smartphones, represented most iconically by the Apple iPhone, now account for one-third of global mobile Internet traffic, according to internetnews.com.
This is an increase of over 25% in the past six months and it is clear that the Smartphones' percentages will only grow -- especially with the expected explosion in mobile video applications.
Although the iPhone's dominance in global Internet traffic has reached 50% in the U.S. and 33% worldwide, it is expected to be challenged in the coming months as a result of new "app stores" being opened by RIM (the Blackberry), Microsoft (mobile OS), and Google (Android).
Nokia is also planning to enter this app-store market, although its fortunes as a Smartphone vendor have been suffering of late as a result of new offerings by its competitors.
By 2013 mobile data traffic is expected to be driven by half a billion subscribers to mobile video services, according to ABI Research.
So the market for video-capable smartphones has only just begun, and make the smarthphone a potential delivery system for a variety of Christian evangelistic and life-style programs.
