Perhaps the main difficulty we have in discussing new paradigms is the necessity to jettison the old ones. There are two main reasons for this. First, in order to recognize when that paradigm quake occurs, it is necessary for us to look for it using old lenses because that's all we have until the new pair of "specs" arrives. The problem is, as anyone who has had to go through several different, and progressively more corrective lenses can tell you, to be able to know when you're ready for the new pair.
You lose track, as your eyesight worsens, of what clear vision truly is and simply do not recognize the necessity—or the advantages—of "changing your focus." Second, all of us live within what Baudrilliard called "hyperreality," a reality of multiple layers of interpretation, each dependent on those before it, and eachseparating us just a little bit further from the actual events being interpreted.
