Globalization, Evangelism, and Demographics

By Robert S. Fortner

The news on the frontlines of evangelization is mixed. Patrick Johnston said in 2003 that more Muslims had converted to Christ in the previous thirteen years than in the entire period from Muhammed to 1990.

Yet other data suggests that the percentage of the world’s population that calls itself Christian has not increased since 1900 and is unlikely to do so even by 2025.

How is this possible? In a word, demographics. And what can be done to alter this situation – since the percentage of the world’s population that is Muslim increased, by some accounts, from 12.4% in 1900 to 19.2% in 2000.
