By Robert S. Fortner
The Pentecostal tradition of Christianity got its start in Uganda in the 1970s when people within the dominant Anglican tradition of the Church of Uganda became frustrated with the church's lack of biblical commitment and left the church for what they believed to be a more orthodox faith. Although the Church of Uganda has since regained its spiritual footing and become one of the orthodox beacons within the Anglican communion, Pentecostalism has continued to thrive in Uganda. But now it is facing its own crises, a result of a commitment to various practices pioneered in the United States and made accessible abroad through televangelism.
